Bring Beauty to Campus on Beautification Day

By Tyris Nelson & Jana Humpreys

Beauty you say? Who doesn’t love something that is beautiful! I know I do! Beauty makes everything look good. I know one thing that needs to look good, and that is our campus. As a result, our fellow TWU faculty members established a day to make our campus look miraculous.  This day was called Beautification day.

April 15th was a beautiful spring day. The birds chirping, the wind blowing, and the sun shining. At 12 p.m., the students, faculty, and staff of Tennessee Wesleyan University found a way to give back to their campus community. The students were involved in cleaning up the campus, prepping for graduation day, and giving other students the opportunities to conduct some more community service in the Athens city area. The students, faculty, and staff mulched, did some repairs to the fire pits, pulled some weeds, picked up trash, and accomplished other maintenance tasks needed later that day. Ashley Cozart, director of student involvement, stated, “This day gives students the opportunity to give back to their institution. It will help progress the campus aesthetics.” It is important that we see how far our campus has come along. By keeping the campus clean, it will help restore the beauty of our lovely university.

Ashley declared, “If it goes well, we will continue this every semester. It will be our mini day of service in the spring semester.” Not only will our campus look good, but it will allow students to obtain their student volunteer hours.
